Note to certain young worship leaders (you know who you are)…
Hillsong United do not offer the only template for effective worship. Neither does [insert favorite artist here]. Virtually every church has a diversity of people that make up it’s congregation – it makes sense to offer variety in how worship functions. Be multi-ethnic. Be multi-generational. Change up the look. Change up the style (for example, I am NOT a country music fan, but we do go down the country road from time to time – stylistically). I have my favorites – but that doesn’t mean that they are the most effective ways all the time to reach a very diverse congregation. As Rick Warren says, it’s not about me, so I need to change it up to reach as many people in as many ways as possible – because that’s what we’re here for!
