One for you today, Worship Pastors…   :  )

Once the audition and onboarding processes are complete, and a new team member has made it successfully through a few weekends, it can be tempting to sit back with the satisfaction that a spot is “filled.” However, the job is not done…

After a month or so on the team, it’s time for a check-in.

Don’t assume that new team members “get it” and leave them on their own. There may be some things that they DON’T get – how to work the individual monitoring systems, for instance (if you have them). As humans, it’s often difficult or embarrassing for us to step up and ask questions if no one else is. It’s easy to assume that things are obvious to everyone except us…

More importantly than information, check in with them just to see how they are doing. They may be stressed being on the platform in front of the congregation and need a thumbs up. They may have experienced a different culture in the past and wonder why things are not the same. And they may just have questions, as I stated before.

This doesn’t have to be a formal meeting (in fact, it’s likely better if it’s not). Just a cup of coffee and a “How are you doing?”
