“A lone ranger is a dead ranger.” I heard this quote recently [from the Army Rangers, I believe]. When I was a kid, reruns of the old black-and-white Lone Ranger TV show still played regularly. For those that don’t know, he was sort of a combination cowboy/crime-fighter. But even with that name, he didn’t do it alone – he had a faithful companion who always had his back. If he was truly on his own, he would have “bit the dust” many times over.
Similarly, church work is not meant to be a solo endeavor. The reality is your own strength and efforts will only get you – and your church congregation – so far. The church staff need to be equippers, not just doers. Let me say that with more emphasis… It is VITAL that church staff be equippers, not just doers.
There are certain roles where true expertise is required, to be sure. However, the majority of church staff roles are people-centric and can be done in a team setting with a bit of training. We’ll talk more about how in the days ahead…
