Regular, Everyday People

Pastors and Church Staffers – I thank God for you today. You give your all to help people to establish the most essential (by far) relationship that they will ever have. I also thank God for those of you who are NOT in full-time ministry. I have served as a pastor for decades, but the truth is that the vast majority of the work of the church is done by people who don’t have that title. Regular, everyday people with regular, everyday jobs who have simply said “yes” to God.

People who mentor struggling students, people who care for the elderly, people who give resources to help the poor, people who hold the hands of the dying. And those who take care of the more supposedly “mundane” tasks – running sermon graphics, greeting people at the church door, parking cars, or cleaning up the puke in the toddlers’ room at Sunday School.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that these things don’t matter because they’re not “glamorous” – they do…

“Nothing in Scriptures depicts the Christian life as divided into sacred and secular parts. Rather, it shows a unified life, one of wholeness, in which everything we do is service to God, including our daily work, whatever that may be.” – Dan Miller
