EVERY One of Them

I’m a church consultant and I’ve worked with a lot of churches. Every one of them is unique. EVERY one of them. This is true, because – just like people – God has created every single church with its own distinctives and characteristics. He doesn’t roll churches out on some giant cosmic assembly line – each one has been lovingly crafted to serve a unique group of people in a unique place at a unique time.

Of course, churches are not perfect, because we are not perfect. All of our brokenness and fallenness follows us when we gather. That’s not a reason to avoid church – in fact, it’s the very reason that it’s essential. Alone, we wallow in a combination of self-loathing and self-obsession. Together, we get a glimpse of something better…

This weekend, drop the excuses and go to your uniquely imperfect and broken church. If you don’t have one, find one.  Satan seeks to isolate us from each other – and ultimately, from God. We’re far, far better off together.

“If all experienced God in the same way and returned Him an identical worship, the song of the Church triumphant would have no symphony, it would be played like an orchestra in which all instruments played the same note.” – C.S. Lewis
