Yesterday, we talked about the need for volunteer job descriptions. Your team members deserve to know what the “win” is in simple and straight forward terms. Here’s an example for a position on the church Production Team called the “CG Operator” – the person who runs the worship song lyrics and sermon slides, videos, etc…:
CG OPERATOR
WHAT YOU DO: Run slides and videos in the weekend services.
WHO’S YOUR TEAM LEADER?: The Production Team Director.
WHAT’S THE WIN?:
- Know The Music – listen ahead of time. You’re part of the band – the one who helps everyone to be able to sing!
- Advance In Advance – hit worship lyric slides slightly ahead of the beat, rather than on the beat. That way the lyrics are ready to go when it’s time to sing them! : )
- Watch Your Fingers – be careful not to hover too closely over the keyboard or to jump the gun with starting or stopping videos. We’ll be happy to give some pointers!
- Focus – the is the #1. Pay close attention, and stay on track with the lyrics or the Pastor’s message. Be flexible if someone gets “a little creative” with the song or sermon order! ; )
- Keep A Lookout – keep your eyes open for potential misspelling or format issues. Together, we can make the services the best they can be!
NEXT LEVEL: To move up to “semi-pro” status, learn how to enter lyrics and/or sermon notes in ProPresenter. Just say the word, and we’ll get you trained up and ready to roll!!!
You get the idea. Of course, you can always give more detail, but that is often better left to a separate document or online training page. By sticking to “short and sweet,” you’re helping the volunteer to understand the key elements that are most important in doing their job.
More on volunteers in the days ahead…
