Don’t lead a double life.
Believe me, I understand – to an extent, this goal is impossible. The hard truth is that we are sinners. ALL of us. Hopefully though, we are sinners who are seeking forgiveness from God. Sinners who are trying – as best we can – not to be sinners. It doesn’t matter that we won’t succeed – imperfection does not negate the need for effort. Think of it this way – if only perfect parents were allowed to raise children, none of us would survive to reach adulthood.
Please don’t miss the point because of my imperfect metaphors. What goes in WILL come out. Negativity – lifestyle choices – entertainment choices – addictive behavior – all of these fuel decay in our bodies, hearts, and souls. Thinking that destructive input doesn’t affect us is childish.
It’s hard, I know – but be strong and courageous. Try again, even though you failed last time. And keep your focus on God. Each and every day. A.W. Tozer had it right: “If you do not worship God seven days a week, you do not worship Him on one day a week.” He is our hope – our only hope – now and throughout our lives.
