Green Room Talk

What is your “green room” talk usually about?

For those of you who aren’t “hip” to my “lingo,” the green room is the room (usually behind or to the side of the sanctuary/worship center platform) that the worship team hangs out in after the worship set – if you’re in a more traditional church building, it’s whatever space is available.

First off, I am assuming multiple services. If there is only one, the team should be receiving the message with the rest of the congregation – and, of course, all team members should hear the message in at least one service.

So – in the service(s) in addition to the one they receive the message at – what does your team discuss? It very much does make a difference. Words matter, and they can have a profound impact on the hearts and minds of any (and every) worship team. I’ve seen great examples and horrible examples:

TOXIC – Gossip, complaining (especially toxic if it’s staff doing the complaining), and the like;

NEUTRAL – General small talk – current events, the weather, etc… Many times the discussion topic is music, since it’s something everyone in the room have in common;

ON POINT – Caring, supportive, godly (and ideally God-centered) interaction.

I understand that every team interaction isn’t going to be a Bible study. However, if the discussion isn’t something that you would want repeated outside of that room, it shouldn’t be happening.
