Yesterday, we listed 10 tough accountability questions for senior leaders. Today, it’s your turn, church staffers… Please understand – my purpose is not to berate or shame you, but rather to discuss what are (IMO) reasonable expectations of what team members will bring to the table:
1] Do you work hard?
2] Do you finish what you start?
3] Do you seek info, rather than just waiting to be “told?”
4] Are you adaptable?
5] Can people trust that you’ll do what you say?
6] Do you understand budgeting?
7] Can you be trusted with sensitive information?
8] Do you seek the good of the whole church, rather than just your area?
9] Do you seek to get better at your job (i.e. are you a continual learner)?
10] Do you overdramatize your problems?
That last question is a biggie these days – basic day-in, day-out tasks are sometimes treated as if they’re wildly unreasonable asks, simply because they involve work…
OK, as you self-evaluated, you may have run into several areas where you know you’re weak. Don’t let it defeat you. Be honest with yourself – even though it’s painful – and then ask “What’s one step I can take to move things in a positive direction?” Don’t try to change the world in a day, just make the turn towards something better.
We’ll talk about how to do that in the days ahead…
