The back of most stages are walls or screens of some sort – flat, straight surfaces. The common strategy is to create stage looks and sets that are also straight – it’s the default that most of our brains go to. Throwing a bit a curve sometimes can give a unique flair to a set – many times people might not even be able to explain what’s different, but it registers. This is especially true if anyone is viewing the platform from above – their perspective is much more 3-D, so the payback of the curve doubles for them.
