Every staff person in a church is there for some sort of reason. To solve some sort of problem. However, it’s easy to forget that in the midst of our day in and day out workflow. There are unending task lists of things that we need to do, as well as things that we could do, if only we had more time. We don’t though. A (non leap-) year has 525960 minutes. That’s all you’re going to get. You can bemoan that fact and add it to the list of reasons of why you’re victimized, or you can use it well. A great first step is to remember your “WHY.”
Your “why” is the reason that you are on staff or leading as a volunteer. Make sure that you know what yours is – and that you’re focused on the right one. A Family Pastor’s purpose is not to write curriculum, it’s to point children to Jesus. A Worship Pastor’s job is not to sing or play impressively, it’s to help the congregation to collectively worship God. A Senior Pastor’s job is not to have a podcast with a ton of followers, etc… etc… etc… You get the idea. Those are all good things, and many are necessary, but they are not the “why.”
Let’s make “Keeping the main thing the main thing” our main thing in 2024. #creativeworshipideas
