Permanently Curious

Most of the great communicators, leaders, and planners that I have seen in my life have been what I call “permanently curious” – they are dedicated to being lifelong learners. One of the biggest falsehoods perpetuated by our current culture is that we will someday “arrive.” That we will get a certain degree in school, that we will land a certain job, that we will buy a certain car, and then be happy. Permanently happy.

Nope. That’s not the way life works. There’s never a time when we’re “done.” That may depress you at the moment because you have a lot on your plate, and coasting sounds pretty good after pedaling so hard. But it’s a dead end. Literally. Without anything to strive for – without any growth – you stagnate and start dying.

Thankfully, the alternative is not difficult. Stay curious. Learn something new every day. Stretch your mind and body. Experience new things. Go new places. Meet new people. And be thankful for them, thankful to God for the new blessings He brings into our lives each and every day.

“Don’t end your education when you finish high school, college, etc. Why do you think the ceremony is called commencement?” – Dan Miller
