Announcements: “The Greatest Thing Ever!”

This one may be a personal pet peeve, but IT”S TRUE! We’ve all heard the person pitching the upcoming church potluck or choir concert while tossing around words like “Incredible,” “Awesome,” or “Unbelievable.” The problem is that the more you use superlatives, the less they mean. If everything is pitched as “really important,” it’s going to be difficult to convince people to come to something that truly is really important. Just tell what the thing is, and the realistic benefits of attending. Please – skip the superlatives. Save “Awesome” for things that really are.
