“When we seek God, we will be found.”

If you are a church staffer or volunteer, stop for a moment. Right now. Pause and refocus on the One we serve. Remember why we do what we do. Acknowledge God in all of His majesty – Creator of all that is, seen and unseen. Confess the sin in your heart. Thank Him for His overwhelming holiness, compassion, goodness and mercy.

These moments need to be a part of who we are. They are not a pause in what we do – they are the heart of what we do. Everything else supports this. God is the center – He will allow nothing else to replace Him, not your job, not the church. I have let the busyness of life pull me away from this center more times than I can count. I am ashamed that this is true, but I ask for His help, again and again, to try anew…

No technique, no strategy, no position, no resources – nothing replaces our reliance on God.

“I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.” – Martin Luther’s morning prayer
